Welcome to the Office of Belonging and Community Engagement
At Berry College, our Good Neighbor Culture prioritizes the education of the heart as much as the head and hands. Inspired by our motto, “ Not to be ministered unto, but to minister,” we thoughtfully shape how we value, treat, and serve one another— both on campus and beyond the Gate of Opportunity.
The Office of Belonging and Community Engagement leads this effort, envisioning and implementing Berry’s Good Neighbor Culture in sustainable, impactful ways.
Our Focus
We foster Good Neighbor Culture through three key pathways:
- Policy & Procedure: Establishing institutional practices that reflect Good Neighbor values.
- Programming & Education: Providing opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to learn and live out these principles.
- Community Engagement: Partnering with organizations beyond campus to mobilize Good Neighbor Culture in the broader world.
Our Recognitions and Initiatives
- Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement: Berry College is recognized for its excellence in community engagement by the prestigious Carnegie Foundation. This honor reflects our commitment to fostering sustainable, reciprocal partnerships that address societal challenges while equipping students to become engaged citizens.
- Becoming a Beloved Community Campus: Through a transformative partnership with the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Berry College is working to become a Beloved Community Campus—a community rooted in love, justice, and belonging. This initiative brings Dr. King’s vision to life on our campus through programs like Kingian Nonviolence training and community outreach, aligning with Berry’s mission to foster meaningful relationships and cultural understanding.
