Alyssa Beasley, who works in the cardiac unit at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, gained vital real-world experience as a Berry College nursing student. She spent almost two years doing what she loves — being part of a skilled, compassionate team caring for patients. Through Berry’s LifeWorks program, the nursing major served as a nurse technician at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.
“This job allowed me to learn alongside some excellent nurses and provide quality patient care to those in need in the Rome community,” Alyssa says. She was one of 10 employees to receive the Best of the Best award at Redmond in recognition of her outstanding commitment to patients and care for the community.
Alyssa was able to put her skills to the test, thanks to the rigorous curriculum and training received in Berry’s nursing program. “From the simulation and skills labs on campus, to the relevant and applicable lessons received from our great nursing faculty, to the hands-on experience obtained from local hospitals, it has been such a blessing to receive my nursing degree at a school with so many valuable resources,” she says.
She also credit mentors in Berry’s division of nursing, noting the countless lessons they communicate by holding themselves to the high standards expected of others. She notes they’re caring and intentional — true advocates for patients and students.
Deeply committed to service, Alyssa also thrived as a campus leader. In her role as a Leadership Fellow, she spearheaded fundraising events for the Sponsorship of Orphans in Uganda Project (SOUP), a nonprofit founded by a Berry alum. After building confidence and demonstrating dedication to her coursework, she took on the job of student mentor guiding first-year students on the pre-nursing track. And she had a lot of fun representing the Office of Admission, where she advanced from student ambassador to student visit coordinator, while sharpening her communication, time management and organizational skills.
“I loved every second of telling prospective families about Berry College and helping them find out if Berry is a good fit for them,” she says.
With 100% of Berry nursing majors finding jobs before graduation, Alyssa is confident in her career choice: “I am eager to get out there and change the world, providing encouragement and quality healthcare, one patient at a time.” Down the road, she aims to become a family nurse practitioner.
