PREPARE FOR A CAREER IN ANIMAL-RELATED INDUSTRIES AT BERRY.
Modesty prevents us from using all appropriate adjectives when describing our animal science offerings.
Here’s the understated approach: unmatched hands-on learning, exceptional teaching, small classes, stellar facilities, devoted mentorship, immediate access to (a great many) animals and graduate success that speaks for itself.
If we may: there is no better place to prepare for a career (and life) in animal science. Ask our alumni (and the people who hire them). We do it right here.
From preventative medicine to animal husbandry, you’ll research alongside your professors. Whether managing livestock or working in a local veterinary clinic, you’ll get (paid) professional experience while deepening your work ethic and preparing for graduate school.
ANIMAL SCIENCE FACULTY
Specializing in the genetics of livestock and the breeder of a patented strain of improved chicken, Dr. Peters holds two doctoral degrees: one in animal breeding and genetics and another in molecular biology. In addition to teaching and mentoring Berry students, Dr. Peters has authored many scholarly articles and contributed a chapter to the book "Livestock Epigenetics."
Berry’s campus creates access to a wide variety of ecosystems and is home to a vast working farm with livestock, an equine center and an aviary.
Animal Science Courses
Learn how human care, genetic selection, and the physical and social environments provided by humans affect animal behavior and wellbeing.
Prepare for graduate education in medicine or research with this advanced physiology course.
Explore the reproductive technologies utilized in domestic animals, including such topics as cryobiology, endocrinology and embryo transfer.
ANIMAL SCIENCE LIVES
At Berry, animal science and biochemistry double major Elizabeth Anthony (16C) worked at the Rollins Dairy—caring for large animals while learning how to manage people. Now a student in University of Florida’s veterinary program, Elizabeth has just been sworn into the Army as a second lieutenant, on her way to her dream job working for the Army Veterinary Corps.
