Culture of Mentorship
Faculty, staff, peer mentors, coaches and alumni provide ongoing guidance as you engage in coursework, practical learning experiences, off-campus internships, study abroad opportunities, community engagement experiences and research partnerships — any of which might lead you to discover your calling (and major).
Alum Anna Helton says Berry guided her in exploring different STEM tracks while determining her future career. And faculty support made all the difference. Early on, Associate Professor of Computer Science Nadeem Hamid noticed her aptitude for software development. At the time, Helton thought it was too difficult, but Hamid brushed off her concerns and challenged her to take further courses.
Anna says, “Dr. Hamid encouraged me to keep growing by inviting me to a computer science competition and asking me to be a teaching assistant. In the end, it was also Dr. Hamid who introduced me to my current boss and mentor. I am forever grateful for the role Dr. Hamid has played in both my college experience and professional career.”

Exploratory Resources
Our foundations curriculum is built to foster exploration across many fields of study. The cornerstone BCC 100 course connects you with faculty and peer mentors to guide you through your first Berry experiences. BCC 150 reinforces self-awareness and professional development.
Each spring, Berry hosts Major and Career Exploration Week — a week of events encouraging students to explore majors, reflect on their goal and to network with peers, alumni and faculty representing different paths.
In addition to gaining experience through the LifeWorks student work program, Berry students have access to professional-level resources, career consultants and assessment tools through the Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD).
