Education Lecturer
Ellice Curry-Tucker is a Lecturer in the Department of Teacher Education. She earned three degrees from Berry College, including an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum & Instruction, a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Middle Grades Math and Science, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She earned her Montessori Adolescent Teaching Certification through the Institute for Guided Studies at the Montessori School of Athens in Athens, GA.
Ellice has 20 years of classroom teaching experience in grades 4-9. She began her teaching career at the Montessori School of Rome, where she established and directed the Adolescent program (Grades 7-9), designing the curriculum to align with the principles of Montessori education to teach the whole child – head, heart, and hands. It was here that she developed a passion for place-based pedagogy, building community within the classroom and connecting students to the larger community. She designed curriculum with the students in mind, tailoring it to their specific developmental needs and characteristics.
Through the last 16 years of her career, Ellice has taught math and science to grades 6-8 at the Berry College Elementary and Middle School. Bringing her passion for teaching the whole child to the BCEMS students, Ellice has worked to fulfill the mission of Martha Berry to educate the head, heart, and hands. Among her many roles in BCEMS, she worked to align the middle grades math and science curriculum with the values and mission of Berry College, the Common Core State Standards, the Georgia Standards of Excellence, and the ISTE standards for technology. She facilitated collaborations between her middle grades students and Berry College professors to enhance the science curriculum through the following projects: BCEMS Organic Orchard, 3D Printing Technology, Solar Energy Technology, Astronomy, Ornithology, and the Longleaf Pine Project. In addition to her role as math and science teacher at the laboratory school, Ellice has mentored and supervised college students from the Teacher Education and STEM Teach programs.
Ellice is passionate about community-based and service-oriented learning. She enjoys leading student trips and has led students to the Grand Canyon through the Havasupai Indian reservation, Colorado, Tennessee, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., Coastal Georgia and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. She loves introducing students to diverse cultures and diverse ecosystems to inspire respect and equity for all life.
