Event Description Presenter: Barbara Monday, founding member and director of DIGS, Inc. (Developing Independence, Growth, and Security; Claire Horton, Berry student and intern at DIGS. Noah Fellers, Monica Jones, Shawn Treglown, and Michelle Turner: self advocates. Imagine advocating for yourself in a society where you are misunderstood daily. Many people do not realize that adults with developmental disabilities are capable not just of self-advocacy but of many every day activities and jobs. DIGS, Inc. is a local non-profit organization that works to provide housing, vocational, and leisure activities for adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Rome area. These adults take part in choir performances and create extraordinary art found in my many homes around town. Many of them hold steady jobs or participate in vocational training programs. The adults who are a part of this program speak out on behalf of themselves and their friends regularly. Every journey results in a remarkable story. Join us for the opportunity to become better acquainted with these inspiring individuals and their stories. |
