Event Description Presenter: Sarah Allred, Associate professor of sociology. This event presents a timeline of historical events that occurred during the Civil Rights Movement. This timeline is composed of different video clips which portray the significance of the fight for Civil Rights. We will show video clips from important happenings that occurred during the Civil Rights Movement, such as the March on Washington and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It will motivate the students to look at the world today and kind of reflect on how far the world has come from times back then when there was a lot of segregation and racism. These clips contain valid information on how people fought for civil rights to let us live our lives peacefully. The presentation of this event possesses clear social and cultural value due to the content within the clips and the discussion questions we will ask the audience following each clip to make sure the audience recognizes the significance of the event. We are asking the audience discussion questions to better understand why this event happened and what it did for the community. |
